Awakening

As a textile design studio based in Honolulu, we often turn to Hawai‘i’s natural beauty for inspiration and print direction, transforming yards of fabric into our art canvas. Beyond the lush outdoors, we also discover creativity within the art community of our island home. This year, Tori Richard is excited to sponsor Awakening, an exciting new immersive exhibition at the Honolulu Museum of Art by renowned British artist, Rebecca Louise Law.

Image Above: Community involvement is a central component to Law's work. Together with the museum and volunteers, Law sourced specific types of local florals including bougainvillea, bozu, gardenia, hibiscus, kukui, orchid, pikake, puakenikeni, and shower tree flowers.

With the help of a community of local volunteers, Law combines locally-grown floral specimen and marine debris with her personal collection of botanical materials to transform two galleries into a vast hanging garden. Reflecting Hawai‘i’s unique landscapes and ecosystem, this installation will invite us to contemplate upon our relationship with the earth as well as the beauty and fragility of its gifts.

Awakening is on view from September 17, 2022 to September 10, 2023 and open to the public at the Honolulu Museum of Art. To learn more and find out how you can see the exhibition, head to their website.
